How to Reset Your Fitness Goals + Confidence Tips & More

Summer 2014

Summer 2015

I don't think there is anything more frustrating than feeling uncomfortable with your body or not your best.
I love to share my real and candid experiences on my blog and as of lately these feelings could not be truer.
I have definitely fallen off the fitness wagon and it's finally time to hop back on.

Fall Into A Fitness Challenge

It's finally Fall!
Time for Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Leggings, Chunky Sweaters, food, food, and more food!

Summer is sadly over and so is my free time to focus on working out and wearing bikinis.
I already feel the pounds coming on and they need to go away ASAP.

My eating habits change for the worse once school begins with all those late nights and unsightly options in my dining hall (I'm talking mozzarella sticks, giant cookies, and pints of Ben & Jerry's).

A new month is upon us so I think it's a perfect time to take control of my fitness and eating habits.

I'll be wining and dining in Italy soon enough and I need to save room for those carbs.
So what's my plan?
Apart from fitting in some pool time whenever I can, I'm taking up some fitness challenges and kicking some of my horrid eating habits.

My Goal: Focusing on Abs, Toning My Derriere, and Avoiding Dairy and Sugar

My Celeb Motivation: Jennifer Lopez

My goals for the month are pretty tough but I'm making sure to follow these challenges to stay on track.

Either way, just make sure you...

A Woman's Best Accessory? Confidence.

"She thinks she's all that and a bag of chips."
Ever hear that one before?

Damn straight I do. Add a soda too while you're at it!

Just kidding. That phrase always gets me. Yeah, I feel awesome and guess what? That's okay!

In life, we have very few things we can control. To me, self-confidence is definitely one of them.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with flaunting or loving the way you look or feel.

Beyoncé does it, so why can't I?

Society has somehow made us think we are narcissistic or self-absorbed for some reason by doing that. I'm sure it has to do with the whole concept of selfies and likes on basically everything.
Yes, after a certain point, put your phone down and quit doing it so that people will like you more.

Self-confidence isn't finding assurance in others. You need to find assurance in yourself.

I am thankful to have girlfriends who share the same beliefs and aren't afraid to own who they are. They inspire me to do the same.

Most of my friends could probably tell you that I am one for dressing up anywhere I go.
Work, school, or even Walmart. Alright, not Walmart maybe Target on a good day.

As Cornelius Lindsey wisely stated,
"If you live off a man's compliments, you'll die from his criticism".

So, you've always wanted to wear a bikini but didn't think you could? Wear it.

Love the look of wearing a bold lip color but never tried it? Try it.

Scared of doing something others will think is weird? Do it anyway.

Who am I looking good for you ask?
Myself, that's who.
(and maybe my potential husband but shh..)

I am not a fan of those who judge others for what they wear and the sort.
I can wear a paper bag if I want to and I will look great in it. Watch me.

I have grown into loving myself more.
I thank my fabulous mother for exuding her own confidence through her style and words. She is never afraid to strike a pose or wear her best and I've learned a lot from that.
I love taking pictures and wearing figure flattering clothing.
If someone doesn't like it, bye.

Ultimately, you have to be happy with who you are and all that you are.
No one else's opinion matters.
(Except your momma's...My momma always knows best)

Like Shay, just remember to werk it <3

Body Image, Weight, and Embracing the Cake

Summer 2010 Stone Harbor, NJ
(I'm 2nd to last on the right)
I love you all, don't kill me for this throwback...

I was definitely never ready for this jelly
(a point for you if you know where that song is from).

Curvy, small waisted, but always a little fuller.

I am what they call "pear-shaped".
Small on top, big on the bottom.

It definitely takes time to get used to your body and I don't think any of us get to a point of fully loving every aspect of our bodies.

I was always the bigger one around my group of friends.
Big hips, dark features, and hair that would be perfect for the 80's.
Unfortunately, it's not the 80's.
My big curly hair, also reminiscent of a lion's mane, must be tamed.

Essentially, I was a total stand out.
And at the time, definitely not in a good way.

High school was interesting to say the least.
I was surrounded by straight-hair and thin bodies that fit into fitted Hollister t-shirts and size 0 Abercrombie jeans.

Did I fit in? Nope.
And I definitely did not fit into those tight, size 0 Abercrombie jeans without ripping those seams and shattering the CEO's ideal customer, that's for sure.

To me, I was the Ugly Betty, the Mia Thermopolis, or the Gracie Lou Freebush before she won Miss Congeniality.
Knowing how to dress and boys liking me were just not my thing.

Thankfully, I lost about 15lbs with the help of Seventeen Magazine and sports, ditched the braces, discovered the power of makeup, and learned how to properly straighten my hair when I didn't feel like wearing my hair au natural or look like I had just walked out of an 80's music video.

Summer 2013

I am now a vegetarian (4 years going strong), sometimes pescatarian (Salmon is da bomb), and active on a daily basis.
I eat healthier, learned how to work out effectively, and keep myself in check (most of the time).
I love to eat and a lot at that. So pizza, cake, cookies, and anything with frosting on it are just a few of my food addictions.
I learned to eat what I want but also make sure I burn it off.
I'd love to have a flat tummy, toned biceps, and slim thighs. Sure, why not. But that's a tad too superficial.
Personally, I would rather feel good about myself and be healthy regardless of what I see on that dreaded scale.
Spring Break 2014

I've learned to embrace the Latina in me and the physical attributes that come with being one.
Before, I wanted to be like Blake Lively or Lauren Conrad. But let's be honest, do I have that body type or hair...um no.
I'd much rather take cues from curvy women like Sofia Vergara or Jennifer Lopez.

It takes time to lose weight, change your habits, and embrace the body you have. But it's worth it.

I will continue to appreciate my body and the "cake", as they call it nowadays, that I was inherited.

But above all, I will forever and always appreciate the existence of chocolate cake just as much, if not more.
